Then, move onto the winery tour which is offered every hour on the hour. The setting is very romantic, with dim lighting and authentic wine casks lining the room. We each enjoyed wine with our meal, which totaled abou $50. All meals come with salad or soup and bread as well. I had the gnocci, my boyfriend had the eggplant parmesean, and we shared a chocolate mousse for desert. Although you choose your meal cafeteria style, it is then freshly prepared and brought to your table. Start with lunch (they don't serve dinner because they believe their staff should be able to eat dinner with their own families) at the Magdalena restaurant. My significant other and I went to this LA hideaway during a romantic weekend and were thoroughly impressed. If I want one masquerading as something better, I can go some place better. If I want a cafeteria experience, this will do. The grapes were good, but really, they can't take credit for that. Tell me the difference between SAW and Hardee's? The quality of the food? My omelette was fine, nothing to justify the $16.50, and the accompanying potatoes were overdone to the point of softness. There was no table service at all not one person came by to see if things were ok, if anyone needed anything, if more flatware was needed, nothing. They still confused my order with the fellow behind me in line, who thankfully was at my table. You use the little cafeteria number sign for your table to direct your food to the right table. Salt and pepper come in those little paper packets which just screams cafeteria. (Yes, I asked for creamer at the time of ordering). My food was terribly bland, getting service to deliver salt and pepper was very difficult, and getting cream for my coffee required two trips to the cashier, by which time my coffee was cold. In my opinion, SAW is not much more that a mediocre cafeteria. I see so many other reviews containing great applause for this place, and I really do not understand that at all. Hector can explain the answer to you during the free tour! ![]() If you are looking for a wine from Italy, look for the word 'sparkling'. ![]() The gift shop had many interesting items that we spent another half hour to shop after our to-go items were ready. Most staffs were nice, friendly and funny. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were much larger than what we have expected too. Out of 7 other dishes we have tried, we highly recommend rib-eye sandwich, Chilean sea bass, seared salmon (it just melt in you mouth!) and lobster ravioli (it goes in so smoothly!). We've tried 'Vintler's Fall Selection', and tasting it with a steak salad like how Hector had suggested made a huge difference! The steak salad itself tasted great. He will reveal quite interesting information about the winery/wines through what feels like an interactive learning.Ĭurrently, there is no wine tasting, but it offers wine flight (4 samples for $20). He has worked at the site over 30 years, so he is quite knowledgeable. Make sure to sign up for a free tour, and ask for 'Hector' for your tour guide if he is available. This is a great place to go for a soothing experience or a short few hours of get away experience from the daily routine activities.
